Sometimes you get clients who don’t exactly know what they want.  Your job as an artist is to get into their head and bring their thoughts to reality.  I’ve done this a number of times, but I can asure you that it’s not an easy task.  The challenge in getting into someones mind creatively is that you cant read peoples minds (even though they DO expect you to do so).

Not too long ago, I had one of my drum teachers reach out to me to help him create a website for his organization.  The name of the organization is called Fara Lambe.  The organization was “designed to establish a standard for Griot traditional drum rhythms, reinforce family values, beliefs and traditions through creative holistic activities”.  With this in mind, I knew that anything that I designed for them had to begin and end with the traditional Griot drum instruments.  I took a visit to Baba Dame Gueye’s school and had an impromptu photo shoot of the various drums he had in his classroom:

The outcome was purely experimental, but for me, that’s the beauty of being an artist!
