It is finally the new year! 2018 is here! During this time, society tends to focus their hopes and dreams on creating new opportunities, new relationships and implementing implementing many positive life’s lessons and acts of self care. As a dance educator, 2017 was definitely spent doing what I love. There were a lot of great things that I experienced last year, but one thing I know for sure, is that for the year of 2018, I am focusing on me.
Last year I traveled to Uganda as the Program Assistant to the New York University’s Steinhardt Dance Education Study Abroad Program. Although I’m not headed there this winter, I will be back in August of this year with my students from Gloria Eve and our joint Dance Ambassadors Program. This will highlight some of our best and brightest students in this opportunity to travel beyond our borders to teach, learn and experience dance on a new level.
Another major milestone for my 2017 year was graduating with my Masters Degree from New York University. It felt good to close the grad school chapter of my life, successfully completing the Dance Education program at NYU Steinhardt! I even had an opportunity to perform for my graduation at Radio City Music Hall, which was amazing within itself!
The opportunities that align what you are passionate about and what pays the bills are far and few. In the past I have focused my attention on many other things outside of me, and now I am choosing to focus on me. Therefore, as an an educational entrepreneur, I have to have a greater focus on what I can do to create windows of opportunities that will help me succeed in bringing forth my vision.
