The United States is where all of Kevin’s global experiences converge into meaningful work.
As a professor at Queensborough Community College, he combines research, performance, and education to inspire his students and community. The institution supports Kevin’s research and cultural contributions—providing students with groundbreaking, real-time insights into the African Diaspora.
Kevin is also the founder and artistic director of the Kofago Dance Ensemble, a company that empowers young performing artists through choreography, storytelling, and cultural identity.
Rooted in Heritage, Driven by Discovery
As a descendant of Caribbean heritage, Kevin’s journey has led him to explore the cultural richness of islands like Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti.
His early visits for Carnival in Trinidad sparked a deeper dive into traditional folklore and the spiritual significance of Orisha and Shango Baptist movement—traditions that remain strong in the country’s performance culture.
In 2011, Kevin began working in Haiti following the devastating earthquake. This marked the beginning of a multi-year effort to empower Haitian youth through dance, cultural exchange, and healing programs.
Where the Journey Begins
Kevin’s work in the African Diaspora began in 1996 with a student trip to Senegal—a trip that ignited a lifelong connection to the continent.
Years later, Kevin would return to Senegal to work with master artists and griots, further deepening his understanding of African rhythm and tradition.
While studying at NYU, he traveled to Uganda, expanding his experience into East African culture. Later, he presented research in Nigeria, exchanging ideas with some of the brightest cultural minds in the world.
Africa remains the wellspring of Kevin’s research, movement vocabulary, and cultural perspective.
