In 2004, RhythmNDance.com was created to fulfill the need for community and news portal on dance. As a central source for African dance information, rhythmndance.com provided discussion forums, event calendars, and artist spotlight interviews  (podcast).

Community Kids African Dance Class 2009

Community Kids African Dance Class 2009

In June 2009, Kevin McIntosh and Takeyah A. Young collaborated to push the organization in a new direction, focusing on the need to reach young people in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area with programming not available during the regular school day. In addition to the youth of the DC Metro area, there are aspiring artists who need support in moving their artistic representation and service offerings to another level.   With this in mind, the mission of Rhythm N’ Dance is to preserve African diasporic culture through arts education for youth and aspiring artists.

RHYHTM N’ DANCE 2010

2010 has been a year of growth and challenges for me as an individual, so its only natrual that my organization also goes through the same growth and challenges.

At the beginning of 2010, we were in residency at the Dance Institute of Washington, based in Columbia Heights, DC.  It was a great run while it lasted, but we’ve moved on.  We are now apart of the Flashpoint Arts Incubation program, which is supported by the Cultural Development Corporation. We’ve got a couple of classes coming up and I can honestly say that we’ve grown leaps and bounds from where we were a year ago today!
