2018 is finally here. During this time of the year, society tends to put all of its hopes and aspirations on opportunities, relationships and life’s lessons starting anew. As a dance educator, 2017 was spent doing what I love.
A year ago I was on my way to Uganda as the Program Assistant to the New York University’s Steinhardt Dance Education Study Abroad Program. Although I’m not headed there this winter, I will be back in August with my students from Gloria Eve and our joint Dance Ambassadors Program, which will highlight some of our best and brightest students in this opportunity to travel beyond our borders to teach, learn and experience dance on a new level.
Another major milestone for my 2017 year was graduating with my masters degree from New York University! It felt good close that grad school chapter of my life by successfully completing the Dance Education program at NYU Steinhardt! I even got a chance to perform for my graduation at Radio City Music Hall, which was amazing in itself!
There’s a lot of amazing and cool experiences from last year, but if there’s one thing I’m focused on for 2018, it’s me! This may sound odd, but at times, its very easy to focus on everything and everyone but yourself. The good thing about this time of the year is that your focus is razor sharp. The opportunities that align what you are passionate about and what pays the bills are far and few these days. That means there has to be an even greater focus on what can be done as an educational entrepreneur that will create the windows of opportunity needed to succeed.
I look forward to any and all opportunities that will come my way, however, the focus on what comes and how it comes will start with me.
